Ontario and British Columbia Invite Candidates in Latest PNP Draws

This week, Ontario and British Columbia issued invitations to candidates through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). These programs allow provinces to select economic immigrants who are best suited to their local labor markets and economies.

How the PNP Works

In Canada, immigration is a shared responsibility between provincial/territorial and federal governments. Through the PNP, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) gives each province and territory (except Quebec and Nunavut) a certain number of nominations. These nominations are used to select immigrants who meet the specific economic needs of each region.

Being nominated by a province does not automatically make you a permanent resident. However, a provincial nomination can significantly strengthen your application for permanent residence when you apply to IRCC.

Provincial Immigration Results (June 15 - 21)

Ontario

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued 402 invitations in three draws over two days this week.

  • June 17:
    • First Draw: 84 candidates were invited under the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream, targeting early childhood educators and assistants with a minimum score of 60.
    • Second Draw: 106 candidates were invited under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream, also targeting early childhood educators and assistants with a minimum score of 39.
  • June 20:
    • A general draw invited 212 candidates under the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Express Entry stream with scores ranging from 305 to 409.

British Columbia

On June 18, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) issued more than 70 invitations to candidates in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate Streams, including those with the Express Entry B.C. option. The province conducted five targeted draws for specific occupations.

  • Tech Occupations: 35 invitations with a minimum score of 122.
  • Healthcare Professions: 14 invitations with a minimum score of 102.
  • Construction Occupations: 11 invitations with a minimum score of 93.
  • Childcare Occupations: 10 invitations with a minimum score of 93.
  • Veterinary Care Occupations: Fewer than five invitations with a minimum score of 80.

These draws highlight the ongoing efforts by Ontario and British Columbia to attract skilled workers who can contribute to their local economies. If you're considering immigrating to Canada, a provincial nomination could be a significant advantage in your application process.
