September 2024: Updates on Canada’s Express Entry Pool

Canada’s Express Entry system saw significant activity in August after an exceptionally busy July. In this update, we’ll break down the latest changes in the pool of candidates and highlight the cut-off scores for those who received invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence (PR).

August Express Entry Draws: What Happened?

In August 2024, five Express Entry draws were held, with over 10,000 ITAs issued. The pattern of holding draws every two weeks returned, allowing more candidates to move forward in their immigration process. Here’s a summary of the August draws:

These draws align with the announcements made by Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Marc Miller. The focus has shifted toward candidates already in Canada, such as those on work permits, to ease pressure on housing and support affordability. This approach aims to meet Canada’s annual immigration targets while reducing the strain on housing.

Additionally, there’s been an increasing emphasis on welcoming Francophone immigrants, with targets for French-speaking newcomers rising each year until 2026. So far in 2024, seven draws based on French language proficiency have been held, issuing over 19,000 ITAs.

As you can see, the majority of candidates have CRS scores between 351 and 400. About 50% of all candidates in the pool have a score of 420 or lower.
