Canada’s Express Entry system saw significant activity in
August after an exceptionally busy July. In this update, we’ll break down the
latest changes in the pool of candidates and highlight the cut-off scores for
those who received invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence (PR).
August Express Entry Draws: What Happened?
In August 2024, five Express Entry draws were held, with
over 10,000 ITAs issued. The pattern of holding draws every two weeks returned,
allowing more candidates to move forward in their immigration process. Here’s a

These draws align with the announcements made by Canada’s
Minister of Immigration, Marc Miller. The focus has shifted toward candidates
already in Canada, such as those on work permits, to ease pressure on housing
and support affordability. This approach aims to meet Canada’s annual
immigration targets while reducing the strain on housing.
Additionally, there’s been an increasing emphasis on
welcoming Francophone immigrants, with targets for French-speaking newcomers
rising each year until 2026. So far in 2024, seven draws based on French
language proficiency have been held, issuing over 19,000 ITAs.
