British Columbia (BC) and Prince Edward Island (PEI) both issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) this week through their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). These programs help provinces select immigrants who meet local economic and labour market needs.

Let’s take a closer look at the recent draws from each province.

British Columbia Targets Entrepreneurs (March 18 Draw)

On March 18, 2025, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) issued ITAs to foreign entrepreneurs under its Entrepreneur Immigration streams.

This draw focused on two specific pathways:

  • Base Stream
  • Regional Pilot Stream

Draw Details:

Stream

Number of ITAs

Minimum Score Required

Base Stream

8

115

Regional Pilot

<5 (fewer than 5)

123

  • The Base Stream targets experienced entrepreneurs looking to start or take over a business in BC. Candidates are scored on human capital, economic factors, and their business concept.
  • The Regional Pilot Stream is designed for entrepreneurs who have been referred by a participating BC community. Fewer than 5 invitations were issued in this stream.

These streams are ideal for foreign nationals who want to invest in or operate a business in BC.

PEI Prioritizes In-Province Workers in Key Sectors (March 20 Draw)

On March 20, 2025, the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) held its third draw of the year. This round focused on candidates already living and working in PEI through the following streams:

  • Labour Impact
  • Express Entry

Draw Highlights:

  • 124 Invitations to Apply were issued.
  • The draw prioritized candidates in key economic sectors.
  • Focus was given to individuals who have lived and worked in PEI for at least one year.

Priority sectors included:

  • Healthcare
  • Trades
  • Manufacturing

This shows PEI’s commitment to supporting workers who are already contributing to the local economy and helping fill labour shortages in high-demand industries.

Why This Matters

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are a valuable immigration pathway for candidates who may not have high Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores in Express Entry, but have skills and experience aligned with a province’s needs.

If you’re living and working in PEI or are an entrepreneur considering a move to BC, now is a great time to explore your PNP options.

Check Your Eligibility

Whether you're an entrepreneur or skilled worker, understanding your eligibility for provincial programs is key. These regular draws are opportunities to move closer to permanent residency in Canada.
