Understanding the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)

The Alberta Opportunity Stream is designed for temporary foreign workers who are already employed full-time in the province. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have a full-time job offer in an eligible occupation from an Alberta employer
  • Hold either a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an accepted LMIA-exempt work permit
  • Meet basic criteria related to work permit type, occupation, language ability, education, and work experience

What Is the Alberta Express Entry Stream?

The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the province to nominate eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool. It targets individuals with skills and experience aligned with Alberta’s labour market needs.

In recent draws, Alberta has prioritized candidates in construction, agriculture, and aviation. This stream also includes specialized pathways such as:

  • The Dedicated Health Care Pathway
  • The Accelerated Tech Pathway
  • The Law Enforcement Pathway

Candidates selected through these pathways receive a provincial nomination, which can significantly increase their chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry.
