New Study Permit Rules for Canada in 2024
Are you heading to Canada for your studies? Here's what you
need to know about the latest study permit requirements:
Starting late January this year, most college and
undergraduate international students need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)
along with their school acceptance letter. This new step ensures you're
included in the national cap for study permits. Make sure to get your PAL by
March 31, 2024, especially if you're applying from outside Canada.
Who needs a PAL?
- Most
college and undergraduate international students
- Non-degree
graduate program students (like certificate or diploma programs)
Who doesn't?
- Primary
and secondary students
- Master's
or doctoral students
- Students
already in Canada on a study or work permit
- Students
with applications submitted before 8:30 a.m. EST on January 22, 2024
Other important changes:
- A
cap on study permits to manage growth, with around 360,000 permits
expected in 2024
- Introduction
of a Trusted Institutions Framework for faster permit processing for
eligible schools
- Adjustments
to work permit eligibility post-graduation and for spouses of students
- Increased
proof of financial support requirements
Make sure to check the latest updates and prepare your
application accordingly. Study in Canada with confidence, knowing you've got
all the right documents in hand!
