On July 25, 2025, Alberta held a new draw under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), inviting candidates who can help fill key labour shortages in the province—especially in the construction industry.

Focus on Construction Workers

This draw was part of the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Priority Sectors category, which targets specific sectors that are important to the province’s economy. In this round, 39 candidates with active Express Entry profiles received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for a provincial nomination.

Here are the details of the draw:

To be eligible, candidates needed to have their primary occupation listed under an eligible construction-related role in their Express Entry profile. Those with a job offer from an Alberta employer had to ensure that the offer was also in a qualifying construction occupation.

For a complete list of eligible construction occupations, candidates can visit Alberta’s official AAIP website.

Alberta’s 2025 Immigration Plans

Earlier this year, Alberta confirmed that it would continue issuing invitations through its three main Express Entry Stream pathways, giving special attention to candidates in key sectors. These sectors include:

  • Construction
  • Agriculture
  • Aviation
  • Healthcare

How Many Invitations Are Left in 2025?

So far, Alberta has issued 269 invitations under the Express Entry – Priority Sectors stream. The table below shows how many nominations are still available for the rest of the year:

Across all streams, Alberta has a total of 4,875 nomination spots for 2025. As of August 1, 2025, the province has used 3,134 of them, leaving 1,741 spaces for the rest of the year.

What Happens After You Get a Nomination?

Once a candidate receives a provincial nomination, they can apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency. This nomination gives them 600 additional points in the Express Entry system, greatly increasing their chances of receiving an invitation from IRCC.
