Last week, Canada's immigration department, IRCC, invited
more people to apply to live in Canada. They had two special events where they
picked people who wanted to move there. In one event, they chose 1,500 people
who were good at speaking French. To be picked, these people needed to score at
least 388 points on a test that measured different skills and qualities.
Just the day before this, IRCC invited another 1,980 people
from all backgrounds, not just those good at French. These people needed a
slightly higher score of 524 points to get invited.
This month, there have been several of these events,
inviting people with different skills, like those who can work in transport or
healthcare. This shows Canada wants to bring in people who can do various jobs
that are really needed.
Since last May, Canada has been picking people based on
specific job skills, like healthcare or technology, and also those who speak
French well. This helps Canada fill jobs that not enough people can do and
supports the use of the French language.
Canada picks these people through a system
called Express Entry. This system gives points to people based on their skills,
like how well they speak languages, their education, and work experience.
People with the highest points get invited to move to Canada.
IRCC aims to make these decisions quickly, within six
months, so people know if they can come to Canada and start planning their new
life.
