Ontario's New Plan for International Students in 2024
Ontario is changing how it
welcomes international students starting in 2024. Here's a simple breakdown of
what's happening:
More Focus on Public Schools
- 96% of study permits are going to public
universities and colleges.
- This means most international students
will study at public institutions.
- Private schools like career colleges
won't get these study permits.
Why This Change?
- Ontario wants to make sure students are
ready for jobs that are really needed in the province.
- They're focusing on areas with many job
opportunities, like health care, engineering, and childcare.
Some Schools Will Get Fewer International Students
- The government says each school can't
have more international students than they did in 2023.
- Some colleges, especially those working
with private partners, will see a drop in international student numbers.
Comparing With Other Places
- Ontario focuses much on public schools,
more so than places like British Columbia.
- This could mean different opportunities
for students choosing where to study in Canada.
Getting Ready to Study in Ontario
- There's something called a Provincial
Attestation Letter (PAL) that international students will need.
Schools will help students get this letter, making the process easier.
