Focus on High Economic Impact Candidates
This draw falls
under British Columbia’s “Innovate” initiative.
Through this
initiative, the province aims to attract highly skilled workers, experts, and
innovators from different sectors. The goal is to make British Columbia a
strong destination for international talent.
The BCPNP has
stated that invitations under this initiative may be issued to skilled workers
in many in-demand sectors and occupations.
However, the
province has also clarified that future high economic impact invitations may
use different selection factors, depending on labour market needs.

Selection Factors for Future BCPNP Draws
British
Columbia may select Skills Immigration candidates based on factors such as:
This means
future draws may not always follow the same criteria as the May 14 draw.

The May 14,
2026 draw was the third-largest Skills Immigration draw conducted by
British Columbia so far this year.

issued based on occupation. That draw targeted candidates in sectors such as
healthcare, veterinary care, education, and construction trades.

Entrepreneur
Immigration Draws in 2026
British
Columbia has also conducted Entrepreneur Immigration draws this year.
So far, the
province has held eight Entrepreneur Immigration draws across five
selection rounds. These draws issued at least 49 invitations.

How Does
BCPNP Select Skills Immigration Candidates?
To be
considered under the BCPNP Skills Immigration category, foreign nationals must
first submit a registration under a specific stream.
After
submission, the registration is scored and placed into the relevant
registration pool.
The score is
based on both:
The maximum
score is 200 points.
British
Columbia then conducts draws from time to time and invites selected candidates
to apply for provincial nomination. Each stream has its own pool, and selection
factors may change depending on the province’s labour market needs.
How Long Is
a BCPNP Registration Valid?
A BCPNP Skills
Immigration registration is valid for up to 12 months.
If a candidate
is not invited within that period, the registration expires. To continue being
considered, the candidate must submit a new registration.
What Happens
After Receiving a B.C. Provincial Nomination?
Candidates who
successfully receive a provincial nomination from British Columbia can then
apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for
permanent residence.
A provincial
nomination can be an important step toward Canadian permanent residency,
especially for candidates who meet British Columbia’s labour market and
economic priorities.
Final
Thoughts
The latest
BCPNP draw shows that British Columbia continues to focus on skilled workers
who can support the province’s economy. Candidates with strong job offers,
competitive wages, and high registration scores may have better chances of
receiving an invitation.
As selection
factors can change from one draw to another, candidates interested in British
Columbia immigration should carefully review their profile, job offer, work
experience, and overall eligibility before applying.
