Canada's Express Entry system has been active, with recent draws targeting specific skills and languages, especially French proficiency. Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening:

  • French Skills: On April 24, 1,400 candidates who are proficient in French were invited with a minimum CRS score of 410.

  • Multiple Draws in April: There were several other draws this month focusing on different skills:
    • April 23: General draw invited 2,095 candidates needing a CRS score of 529.
    • April 11: Focused on STEM occupations, inviting 4,500 candidates with a CRS score of 491.
    • April 10: General draw required a CRS score of 549, the highest this year.

About Category-Based Selection

Introduced in 2023, this method allows Canada to target Express Entry candidates with specific skills or language abilities needed in the workforce. The categories for 2024 include healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, agriculture, and strong French language skills. Candidates need relevant work experience to qualify.

What Is Express Entry?

Express Entry manages applications for skilled workers seeking permanent residence in Canada.
It includes several programs like the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates are scored on factors like age, education, and language skills. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency, typically processed within six months.

These targeted draws show Canada’s strategic approach to welcoming immigrants with specific skills and languages that support the country's labour market needs.
