Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is reopening on May 21, 2024. This program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residency. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to send out 35,700 invitations, aiming to approve 20,500 applications.

Who is Eligible?

The 2024 round will target applicants from the 2020 intake. The selection is random, so keep an eye on your email from May 21; all invitations will be issued within two weeks.

Application Process

To apply, ensure you meet the eligibility requirements, such as residency and income levels. Fill out an interest to sponsor form unless you received an invitation in 2021-2023. Applications must be submitted through the designated portal by the specified deadline. IRCC processes most applications within 112 days.

Alternatives if Not Selected

If you're not selected for the PGP, the Super Visa program offers another way for parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to five years, extendable by two more years. This program is available year-round with the same processing times as the PGP.

The PGP is a part of Canada’s commitment to family reunification, offering a yearly opportunity for permanent residency via a lottery system.
