Under the province’s Expression of Interest prioritization system, candidates may receive preference based on different factors, including employment in healthcare, sales and service occupations, rural communities, and occupations that are currently underrepresented in the province.

The August 10 draw also recorded the lowest number of AIP invitations issued since the June 10 draw.

How the NLPNP and Atlantic Immigration Program Process Works

In most cases, candidates applying through either the NLPNP or the Atlantic Immigration Program must have a valid job offer.

An exception applies to individuals seeking permanent residence through the NLPNP entrepreneur streams.

Foreign nationals interested in being considered under the NLPNP or Newfoundland and Labrador’s AIP must submit an Expression of Interest through the province’s Immigration Accelerator Portal.

As part of their EOI profile, candidates provide information about areas such as:

  • Education;
  • Employment history;
  • Language ability; and
  • Plans to settle and establish themselves in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Once submitted, the profile enters the province’s EOI pool and may be considered in future immigration draws.

How Candidates Are Selected

The Newfoundland and Labrador Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism reviews the EOI profiles submitted by candidates.

The province periodically conducts immigration draws and invites candidates who best meet its immigration and labour market priorities.

Under the NLPNP, selected candidates are invited to apply for provincial nomination.

Under the Atlantic Immigration Program, selected candidates can move forward with the endorsement process.

The province may prioritize candidates whose profiles match specific labour market and immigration needs.

What Happens After Receiving an Invitation?

Candidates who receive an invitation must respond within 60 days.

The application process differs depending on the immigration program.

For the NLPNP, the employer submits the application.

For the Atlantic Immigration Program, the candidate is responsible for submitting the required application.

Once an applicant receives a provincial nomination certificate under the NLPNP or an endorsement under the AIP, they can apply to the federal government for permanent residence.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada will then assess the permanent residence application.

If the application is approved, the applicant may receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

Current Permanent Residence Processing Times

According to the processing times available as of August 10, 2026:

Application Type

Processing Time

Base Provincial Nominee Program

13 months

Enhanced Provincial Nominee Program

7 months

Atlantic Immigration Program

26 months

Processing times can vary depending on the application and individual circumstances.

How Long Does an EOI Remain Valid?

An Expression of Interest submitted to Newfoundland and Labrador remains valid in the candidate pool for 12 months.

If a candidate does not receive an invitation during this period, the EOI will expire.

To continue being considered, the candidate must submit a new profile.

For Atlantic Immigration Program candidates, the employer may be required to submit the profile again.

What This Draw Means for Immigration Candidates

The August 10 draw shows that Newfoundland and Labrador continues to invite candidates through both the NLPNP and the Atlantic Immigration Program.

The large share of invitations issued through the NLPNP also highlights the province’s continued use of its provincial nominee program to address labour market and immigration priorities.

Candidates interested in immigrating to Newfoundland and Labrador should ensure that their EOI information is accurate and updated and that they meet the applicable job offer and program requirements.

Conclusion

Newfoundland and Labrador issued 208 invitations in its August 10, 2026 immigration draw.

Of these, 186 invitations were issued through the NLPNP and 22 through the Atlantic Immigration Program.

With 2,197 invitations issued so far in 2026, the province continues to use its immigration programs to attract workers who can support local employers, communities and the provincial economy.
