Express Entry Update: Healthcare Workers' Golden Ticket to Canada

feature image

On Valentine's Day, February 14, Canada showed some love to healthcare workers dreaming of moving to the country. The latest Express Entry draw focused on those with healthcare experience, and it was a big one! Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent out 3,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency. The best part? You only needed a score of 422 to get an invite, which is the lowest score we've seen for healthcare workers since these special draws started in June 2023.

This draw was not just good news because of the low score needed. It also sent out almost the highest number of ITAs ever for healthcare workers, second only to the 3,600 ITAs sent in October last year.

But what if you're a healthcare worker who missed out? You might be wondering how you can bump up your score for next time. Don't worry; we've got some tips using made-up profiles as examples to show you how it's possible to get that score up.

What You Need to Join the Healthcare Draw

Before diving into how to improve your score, let's talk about who can get into these healthcare draws in the first place. To be eligible, you need:

  • At least six months of full-time work (or the part-time equivalent) in healthcare within the last three years.
  • This experience has to be in one of the 35 jobs that IRCC says are eligible. And yes, it counts whether you worked in Canada or somewhere else in the world.

This February draw made it clear: Canada is eager to welcome healthcare professionals. So, if you're in the healthcare field and dreaming of life in Canada, now's a great time to ensure your Express Entry profile is in tip-top shape. Who knows? The next draw could be your ticket to a new life in Canada.
