Canada Extends Work Authorization for International Graduates

feature image

Canada has updated its rules to help international graduates get jobs faster. Now, if you've finished your studies and are waiting on your work permit, you'll get an interim work authorization letter that lasts 180 days instead of the previous 120. This letter lets you start working full-time right away.

What's This Letter All About?

It's a document from Canadian immigration that says you can work before your official work permit comes through. You just need to have applied for your work permit before your study permit runs out.

Who Can Get This Letter?

  • You had a valid study permit when you applied for the work permit.
  • You've finished your studies.
  • You met the work conditions while studying (like being a full-time student and not working over the allowed hours).

From November 15th, 2022, to April 30th, 2024, students could work more than the usual limit, which is something to remember.

With this letter, you can even leave Canada and come back to work, but it's not a pass to travel. Make sure your travel documents are still good!

This change means international grads in Canada have a better shot at starting their careers smoothly and sticking around longer.
