Looking for a job in Canada while still in the Express Entry pool?
Canada relies heavily on immigrants to grow its workforce,
with almost all labor market growth coming from newcomers. To help fill job
vacancies that can’t be filled domestically, employers can hire candidates from
the Express Entry pool.
When Do Employers Hire Through Express Entry?
Employers can hire through Express Entry if:
- The
position is for skilled work: This includes jobs under
categories 0, 1, 2, or 3 of Canada’s National Occupation Classification
(NOC) system.
- They
can’t fill the job locally: Employers need to prove
they’ve advertised the job on the Government of Canada’s Job Bank and in
two other places.
How Employers Hire Through Express Entry:
- Using
the Job Bank’s “Job Match” Feature:
- Employers
post job openings on the Job Bank.
- The
Job Bank’s system matches job postings with candidate profiles.
- Employers
can then consider these matched candidates for the job.
- Labour
Market Impact Assessment (LMIA):
- Employers
might need an LMIA to show that hiring a foreign worker won’t negatively
affect the Canadian job market.
- If
an LMIA is required, it must have a positive or neutral result.
- Making
a Valid Job Offer:
- After
meeting all conditions and, if needed, obtaining an LMIA, employers can
make a job offer to a candidate in the Express Entry pool.
How Candidates Can Get Noticed:
To use the Job Match feature, you need to:
- Have
a Valid Express Entry Profile:
- Get
a profile number and job seeker validation code from IRCC.
- Create
a Job Match Account:
- This
is separate from a Job Bank account.
- Enter
your Express Entry information when creating your Job Match profile.
Once set up, your profile will be matched with job postings
in the Job Bank. Note that only job postings advertised for over 30 days will
be shown to Express Entry candidates.
